Fatwas have become a rapidly expanding field of scholarly inquiry, functioning not only as religious guidance but also as a key social and legal instrument for addressing contemporary issues in Muslim societies. This bibliometric study maps the structure and evolution of fatwa research indexed in Scopus, focusing on publication trends, collaborative networks, leading contributors, and the dominant thematic clusters of the field. Using 532 documents retrieved with the title keyword “fatwa” and analyzed through VOSviewer, Biblioshiny, and Microsoft Excel, the study identifies a steady growth of publications, increasing international collaborations, and diversification from classical jurisprudential debates to themes such as digital fatwas, Islamic finance, social media ethics, and governance of religious authority. The findings highlight how fatwa studies are increasingly shaped by digitalization, transnational scholarly networks, and emerging socio‑legal challenges, providing a comprehensive evidence base for future research agendas and policy formulation related to fatwa institutions and practices.
