Abstract

Islam emphasizes education in all aspects, whether in theory, practice, skills and leadership. Education in today's schools is divided into a curriculum that contains a specific syllabus as well as contains students’ association, sports and uniforms activities. Co-curriculum is part of the national education system. Taking into account the benefit aspects of the curriculum in the implementation of co-curricular activities, it will ensure that the objectives that are outlined by the Ministry of Education Malaysia will be met, likely it will benefit students and avoid the harm. The failure of administrators, teachers and students to grasp the concept of maslahat makes co-curricular activities marginalized and seen as less important than academic matters. As a result, parents and guardian who will not emphasize on co-curricular activities which are considered as an extra that contribute to the skip by students. In this regard, the study was conducted to highlight the concept of maslahah in the activities and its position according to maqasid al-shari'ah. Through this analysis, it is found that co-curricular activities rank at different categories based on the resolutions made by the Islamic scholars. The results of this study are expected to contribute towards the improvement of the national education system in Malaysia especially in co-curricular activities.
