Abstract

Teaching strategies are one of the important components to produce a quality and enjoyable teaching and learning process for children. In Malaysia, the National Preschool Standard Curriculum (NPSC) outlines several teaching strategies that are suitable according to the age and interests of children. With the variety of teaching strategies and approaches available today, teachers must be proactive and creative in providing early learning experiences to children. Therefore, aspects of teaching strategies for preschool teachers are reviewed through the lens of a renowned scholar in Islamic Education, Abu Hamid al-Ghazālī or better known as al- Ghazālī. This study was conducted to identify items for teaching strategies for preschool teachers through al-Ghazālī's educational thought. Analysis was conducted using literature mapping and fuzzy delphi research. A total of 25 experts from the fields of early childhood education, curriculum development, Islamic education and the Malaysian Ministry of Education (Curriculum Development Division) were involved in this study. The findings of the study show that the items proposed regarding the teaching strategies of preschool teachers based on al-Ghazālī's educational thought received expert agreement. The study also found that the components of care and education need to be integrated through diverse teaching strategies in developing students' potential. Finally, the study also suggests that the teaching strategies proposed in the study can be analyzed for their effectiveness through field studies.
