Abstract

The aim of this study was to identify the teaching practices and the usage of teaching aids in the teaching-learning process among the teachers teaching Arabic Language in Brunei Darussalam. Approach used was quantitative in nature where questionnaires were distributed to teachers from secondary schools in all the  four districts in Brunei Darussalam namely Brunei-Muara, Tutong, Belait and Temburong districts. Data were analyzed descriptively through frequencies and mean values. From the results, it was found that teachers did not use varieties of teaching approaches in their lessons, instead they still practice the teacher-centered approach. Apart from that, usage of teaching aids was also at an unsatisfactory level. Further, this study showed that the Arabic Language teachers were burdened with teaching loads which ultimately affected their quality of teaching. Several recommendations were proposed to related authorities toward the betterment of teaching Arabic Language in secondary schools and in Brunei Darussalam, as a whole.
