Abstract

The Periodic Table of Elements (PTE) is a fundamental topic in the Standards-Based Secondary Curriculum (KSSM), specifically in the Form 4 Chemistry curriculum. Understanding the PTE is crucial for mastering Chemistry and is also relevant to other science subjects. However, many students find the PTE challenging and dull due to its complex and abstract subtopics. To make learning the PTE more engaging and effective, a more active teaching approach is needed, moving away from conventional passive methods. Therefore, integrating game-based learning (GBL) as an interactive and dynamic method is the optimal choice. Previous studies have demonstrated that GBL is an effective approach for comprehending the PTE in a meaningful way. In response to the demands of industry 4.0, several countries worldwide have embraced the Integrated STEM approach. This approach exposes students to the importance of acquiring interdisciplinary knowledge that can be applied to real-world problems. Consequently, this article explores the integration of the Integrated STEM approach with game-based learning to facilitate the understanding of the periodic table of elements. Both approaches have been widely acknowledged in literature as providing significant learning experiences for students.
