Abstract

Individual work performance cannot be viewed or evaluated only based on their service duration. A low performance record of below 60 marks involves not only novice staff but also long serving staff. This suggests that individual work performance is closely related to the various internal and external factors involved. This study aims to identify teachers' perceptions of their work performance, task load, work environment and personal factors. The study also analyzes the relationship between teacher work performance and the three variables. The study was conducted by a case study at a selected school in Sabah. The sample involves a total of 68 teachers. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results showed that teachers had a high perception of their work performance (M = 3.7810, SD = .43292). The findings also found that all three factors were assessed moderately by respondents (task load: M = 3.1454, SD = .35822, working environment: M = 2.9592, SD = .32403, personal: M = 3.0441, SD = .24648). Correlation analysis showed no significant correlation between work achievement and task load factor (r = -. 074, p <.676). There is a moderate negative linear correlation between work environment factor and work performance. However, the correlation is not significant (r = -. 316, p <.068). Correlation analysis also shows that there is a weak negative linear correlation between personal factors and work performance. The correlation between personal factors and work achievement is also not significant (r = - .192, p <.278). Further studies are proposed on a larger scale involving more factors, more districts or states and more teachers so that the results of the study can be generalized.
