Abstract
The systematic management of student discipline has given rise in recent years to a discussion of the need for student discipline. Managing student discipline is done differently in each school because of different challenges, and capabilities. Therefore, this research was carried out to develop a best practice profile in managing student discipline effectively. Relevant models and circulars were applied as a conceptual framework for this study: The ADDIE Model by Malenda (2003), Organizational Theory by Richard L. Daft (2003) and Professional Education Circular Letter of the Ministry of Education Malaysia (KPM). Based on the ADDIE Model, one phase was used in developing the profile. This was the development phase, a three-round Delphi method was started by interviewing nine experts whose experiences in student discipline management were greater than 10 years. The output of this round, which was analyzed using the thematic analysis method, was used to develop items for the questionnaire which was used for other rounds of this phase. A total of 213 items were successfully quoted and categorized according to their respective sub-themes. For these rounds, data were analyzed using the Centralized Conduct Measurement (UKB) which included descriptive statistics like mean, median and Inter-Quartile Range. This phase found four main themes in managing student discipline efficiently and effectively, namely, planning, implementation, leadership, and control. The results of this study may assist schools, particularly, their school leaders, to manage student discipline using the ideas of local experts.
