PERANAN AMALAN BIMBINGAN DALAM MENINGKATKAN PEMBELAJARAN PROFESSIONAL GURU
Abstract
Changing the practice of teacher is not easy. In this case teachers need help and support to make such changes. In some countries like Malaysia, support for teachers is given through coaching. Effective coaching occurs when teachers and coaches equipped themselves with various knowledge and skills related to instructional coaching. This study examines the perceptions of teachers and coaches on the implementation of coaching practices in Malaysia schools. Additionally, it looks at how the form of instructional support given to teachers in helping them improve classroom practices. This article specifically addresses the application of five elements of coaching namely collaboration, support, feedback, reflect and trust. This study also looks at how these elements affect the development of teacher professionalism. Data for this quantitative study was collected based on a set of questionnaires which were distributed to 470 teachers and coaches in primary and secondary schools in Selangor and Sabah. Analysis of the findings were based on descriptive analysis using SPSS as well as inferential analysis using Smart PLS. The findings of this study provide an overview that the implementation of coaching in Malaysian schools based on the five elements of coaching were high. Hence, it is clear that the practice of coaching can help teachers and coaches make changes and improvements in teacher practices. The findings also show that certain elements of coaching were less practiced and thefore should be given more emphasis in the effort to help improve the teaching practices as well as students' learning outcomes.
