Abstract
This research endeavours to inculcate PLC in the education system and to measure the understanding of PLC among Malay language teachers through developmental instructional supervision. PLC aims to equip Malay language teachers with knowledge in supervising and to develop their interpersonal and technical skills in teaching. Be that as it may, PLC modules are the key to empower Malay language teachers in secondary schools. The data collection of this qualitative research was conducted using observation and interview through focus group discussion. Observation and interview was conducted on 50 samples Malay language teachers from five selected secondaryschools in Kuala Lipis, Pahang. This research involves 50 Malay language teachers whom are teaching in 5 secondary schools; 10 Malay language teachers per school, for focused group discussion. Another 120 samples were chosen for an open-ended discussion that is made up of the administrations, senior assistant, head of department of Malay language, and Malay language teachers. Findings have shown that common practice in the learning and teaching of Malay language is less effective. Findings have shown that the teachers do not understand the concept of supervision, lack of knowledge of tasks and developmental supervision process, lack of reflective practice and feedback, lack of teachers collaboration and support, lack of understanding concerning the culture of PLC and factors that impede the inculcation of PLC. Though the teachers were positive towards PLC, there is no actual documentation that leads to the misapprehending of the culture. Nevertheless, PLC is an approach to enhance current system that could increase the quality of learning and teaching process in Malaysia. With the alteration of the culture, the problem could be rectified, thus increasing the quality of Malay language teachers. However, the inculcation of PLC is time consuming because the inculcation of a culture is a long process. Therefore, more alternatives such as workshops need to be conducted in order for this culture to be fully exposed and instilled in the education system.
