Author Guidelines

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

Submissions from 1/7/2024 and that have been accepted for publication after the double-blind review process will be subject to a publication fee of USD100/- .

 

Ethics in Publishing

All submissions must adhere to the ethics in publishing, in particular the avoidance of plagiarism. Manuscripts are subject to a double-blind review process.

 

Cover Letter

The submission must be accompanied by a cover letter from the corresponding author stating that the manuscript is original, has not been published before, and not under consideration for publication elsewhere. This statement must also declare that all named authors have contributed to the preparation of the manuscript and agreed to the submission.

 

Title Page

The submission must be accompanied by a title page which contains the following essential information:

  • Title. Title should be concise and informative.
  • Author names and affiliations. Check that all names are correctly spelled. Authors’ affiliation addresses should be presented below the names. Affiliations of authors should be indicated with a lower-case superscript letter immediately after the author’s name.
  • Corresponding author. The corresponding author should be marked by a superscript asterisk (*) immediately after the name of the corresponding author. Ensure that the email address is provided and contact details are up-to-date.
  • Abstract. Abstract should be not more than 200 words.
  • Keywords. Maximum of five keywords should be provided.
  • JEL classifications. At least one JEL classification code should be provided.
  • Funding source(s). All relevant funding sources should be duly acknowledged.

 

Abstract

An abstract of not more than 200 words should be provided.

 

Keywords

Immediately after the abstract, authors are to provide a maximum of 5 keywords.

 

JEL Classification Codes

At least 1 JEL classification code according to the Classification System for Journal Articles as used by the Journal of Economic Literature should be provided.

 

Manuscript Formatting

Manuscripts must be in English and should not exceed 8,000 words including diagrams, figures, tables, etc. The first page of the manuscript (without authors information) should contain: (i) the title of paper, (ii) abstract, (iii) keywords, and (iv) JEL codes. Manuscripts should be typewritten with double spacing. A manuscript should be divided into sections with short titles or subtitles. All pages should be numbered consecutively.

 

Math Formulae

Important formulae (displayed) should be numbered consecutively throughout the manuscript as (1), (2), etc. on the right-hand side of the page. Where the derivation of the formulae has been abbreviated, it is of great help to referees if the full derivation can be presented on a separate sheet (not to be published).

 

Footnotes

Footnotes should be kept to a minimum and be numbered consecutively through the text with superscript Arabic numerals.

 

Tables and Figures

Illustrations (including graphs and diagrams) will be scanned from originals supplied by the author. They should be printed in black and white and of high quality. All illustrations must be at least half A4 paper size. All illustrations should be referred to as figures and should be numbered consecutively in the text in Arabic numerals. Illustrations of insufficient quality which have to be redrawn by the publisher will be charged to the author.

Tables should be numbered consecutively in Arabic numerals headed with short titles.

 

References

References to publications should follow the American Psychological Association (APA) referencing style version 7.0. References should be typed after the text and should include only the most relevant papers cited in the text. The author should make sure that there is a strict one-to-one correspondence between the names (years) in the text and those on the list. The complete references should be double-spaced and listed alphabetically after the text. Journal and book titles should not be abbreviated.

The contents of the manuscripts shall be the sole responsibility of the authors and publication does not imply the concurrence of the Editorial Board or the publishers.

 

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The submission represents original research that has not been previously published and not under consideration for publication elsewhere.
  • The submission must consist of three documents: i. Cover letter with content stated in the Author Guidelines ii. Title page with content stated in the Author Guidelines iii. Manuscript without author(s) information
  • The manuscript file is in Microsoft Word.
  • The manuscript adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • All references mentioned in the Reference List are cited in the text, and vice versa.
  • Funding source(s), if any, has been acknowledged.
  • Please note that the online submission system is not fully in operation.  All submissions through the system will not be processed at this moment. During this maintenance period, please send your submissions to the Editor at mjes@um.edu.my as an email attachment.
