Abstract

This study was conducted to study the relationship between the practice of learning organization with teacher leadership in rural schools in Batang Padang district, Perak. This study uses quantitative methods with survey design using questionnaires for data collection. The entire population of the interior rural school teachers (except the Headmasters) which are 34 teachers from Batang Padang district, Perak became the respondents as the total population is small. The questionnaire covers three parts, namely a) demographics of the respondents, b) the practice of learning organization and c) teacher leadership. Items were adapted from PATOP-SM (Learning Organization Best Practices for Malaysia Schools) for learning organization practices and TLSA (Teacher Leadership Self-Assessment) for teacher leadership. Internal consistency analysis shows Cronbach Alpha values of .943 for learning organization practices and .966 for teacher leadership. Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) software version 23.0 has been used for data analysis. The findings show that the level of learning organization practice and the level of teacher leadership are high (mean = 4.26, standard deviation = .480) and (mean = 4.48, standard deviation = .371). Furthermore, Spearman correlation analysis showed the existence of a significant, positive and strong relationship between the practice of learning organization with teacher leadership in rural schools (r = .541, p <.05). In terms of implications, this study shows that improving the practice of teacher learning organization will increase the level of teacher leadership for interior rural school teachers.
